Our Activities Through the Years
This page will be an introduction to the many hobbies and activities in which we have participated over the years. Some have been short lived and others have lasted a life time. One of those life time ones is photography. We will start there.
An interest in photography started longer ago than I like to remember. For Nell that first one was a Brownie box camera. That took her through high school and college. Ron started professionally while in the Marine Corps stationed on Guam. His first camera there was a speed graphic. Shortly before we met, we had both graduated to a 35mm camera. Then in the late 1990's Nell tried her hand with a digital camera. Those first ones didn't have much going for them, but they were fun. Now, we both have much better digital cameras. The best thing is not waiting for a developer to get snapshots back to us. It is also very hard to fill a memory card with one days shooting. The number of images taken makes it easier to discard the worst ones. We are just happy that all this technology happened in time for us to enjoy it. We will be using many of our photos on the website.
After photography, perhaps it is the computer that has lasted. We started about 12 years ago and have been at it steadily ever since. Not long after we bought our first desk top computer, we signed up for the internet. When I think now about how slow everything was back then, I am surprised that we persevered as long as we have. It has been a great help in many of our activities. Another of our current hobbies is editing photos. We are using Photoshop Elements and like the challenge of trying to improve our images. While traveling, the laptop computer is always with us. That way we downloads images and do much of the editing along the way.
We started doing genealogy about the same time and much of our material has come from the internet. Later we will be including some of our genealogy work on the website. Also, about the same time we started going to Elderhostel programs. Our volunteer experiences will also be included. As the work on those pages are finished their links will be to the right.
